- Ezeagu Gladys Chinazum
Residents of Mile 2 in Ojo area of Lagos state have cried to the state government for help following the dilapidated state of the road.
This comes even as the road has become unmoveable for motorist, at a time when the rain seems to be here again.
It was noticed that there are some areas in Lagos state, which are suffering inaccessibility due to poor state of roads and the mile 2 road falls under this category.
Some of the people who live across mile 2 and iyana-iba area stated that they have waited and prayed for years on the state government to come to their rescue.
Their prayers seemed to have been answered early this month when some sets of individuals working with CCECC began road and drainage reconstruction on the road.
According to a motorist, who simply identify himself as Yusuf Garba, "the road condition is unpleasant, especially in this rainy season of the year. We can't drive through this route when it rained. What we do is to take another route that is kirikiri which is longer than expected".
"Although, there are several actions of reconstruction exercise early last year for road after years of neglect. And for the first time, there was a ray of hope for the road, but this looks short-lived." He said
Also, speaking with one of the Okada riders who simply identified himself as IfeanyiIfeanyi Ozor, he said: “We were happy when they began works on this road but we can’t say that now. The road is affecting my Okada business and other businesses here. How long will it take for the road to be accessible again?”
A resident of Ojo, Mrs. Tolase Tolu noted that the construction, which has been going on for over a year, has made the roads unaccessible.
She said: “The road is so bad and not accessible. There are pot holes in the middle of the road. We urge the Lagos state government to help us rehabilitate the road before it sends us back to our villages.”
